The Boulder Valley School District's Community Access Mentoring Program (CAM) began in 2007 as a result of the assessed needs in the community. Dr. Jan Hittelman, a local psychologist, together with Chris King, BVSD's superintendent, developed the idea for the program to be a portal connecting middle school children to the community activities that will help them to thrive, not merely survive. The long-term goal of the program is to serve all of Boulder County's Middle Schools and some of Boulder County's private schools by the year 2010.
